Charles C. Wells, 83, of 823 Fourth street died unexpectedly Wednesday of an apparent heart attack. Mr. Wells was taken from the Senior Citizens center at 1:50 p.m. Wednesday by the Hathaway-Morrison ambulance to Bartholomew county hospital where he died at 2:30 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the Hathaway Morrison funeral home by Dr. James Keith. Persons may call from 3 until 9 o'clock today and Friday until time of services. Burial will be at Garland Brook cemetery.

Mr. Wells was born in Bartholomew county on June 24, 1888, the son of Hiram and Alice Wells. Mr. Wells was active in Democratic party activities, both in Bartholomew county and Marion county. He retired in 1953 from the William H. Block company at Indianapolis where he had been employed for 11 years. He then served as a deputy shefiff for Marion county for eight years and was employed in the city engineer's office at Indianapolis for five years. Mr. Wells retired in 1968 and returned to reside in Columbus.

Mr. Wells was a member of the Senior Citizens club, and the First United Methodist church.

Survivors include his wife, the former Florence Jones; a son, Charles R. Wells of Granview Lake, local lawyer; five daughters, Mrs. Mildred Armstrong of Clearwater, Fla., Mrs. Kathryn Slemp of 2239 Home avenue, Mrs. Clara Embry of 1235 Twenty-fifth street, Mrs. Vivian Snoddy of Paxton, Ill., and Mrs. Evelyn Harden of Indianapolis; a sister, Mrs. Carrie Ailstock of florida, 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.
