Mrs. Alice R. Carter, 79 years of age, passed away Wednesday evening at the family home, 801 Badger avenue, following a long period of failing health.
Mrs. Carter was born July 18, 1866, near Bancroft, Mo. Her parents were pioneers of northwestern Missouri and they resided near Bancroft until, when the railroad was built through that area, the town was moved to the railroad line and reestablished as Gilman City. Mrs. Carter's family resided at Gilman City many years, and she attended school there. She was married to Robert N. Carter Oct. 5, 1887. Mrs. Carter was the youngest of 12 children, the others being nine brothers and two sisters.
Mr. and Mrs. Carter came to Casper in 1930, and Mr. Carter died here 8 years ago Nov. 1. Three children were born to the couple, Norman H. who pre-deceased Mrs. Carter, and two daughters, Mrs. A.S. Crump of Casper and Mrs. Harry H. Weseman of Midwest, Wyo. Besides her daughters, Mrs. Carter is survived by two brothers, George H. Hendricks and M. B. Hendricks, both of Denver, Colo.; six grandchildren, including James C. Crump of Casper, and one great grandchild.
The deceased was a charter member of Gilman City lodge No. 201, Order of the Eastern Star, and of the Rebekah lodge of Gilman City. She continued her affiliation with the Gilman City chapter of OES but transferred her Rebekah membership to Natrona lodge No. 13 after coming to Casper.
Mrs. Carter was a member of the First Methodist church of Casper and was an active and ardent church worker all her life.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Bustard funeral home, with the Rev. Charles E. Hardesty, pastor of of the First Methodist church, officiating. The casket will not be opened at the service, but the body will lie in state at the funeral home this evening and up to 1 o'clock Friday afternoon. Interment will be in Highland cemetery.
