About 1926, Johny married Dovie Mattie Peace (1909-1938). Johny was 26 at the time, Dovie just 17. She was the daughter of John Thomas Peace (1866-1915) and Charity Eleanor Barnett (1871-1927), both lifelong residents of Bell Co., KY.
Johnny and Dovie were married about twelve years and had six known children. They were Charles Eugene Thacker (1927- ), Glenn Lee Thacker (1929-1961 ), Anna J. Thacker (1932- ), Harold Ralph Thacker (1936- ) and June Thacker (1938- ).
Dovie died on May 22, 1938, possibly from childbirth complications, in Bell Co., Kentucky at the young age of 28. She is buried in the Middlesboro Cemetery located in Middlesboro, Bell Co., KY.
About 1940, Johny married a second time, to Margaret Louise "Maggie" Bryant (1904-1988). By then, Johny was 39 years of age and although Maggie was 36 it was her first marriage.
Maggie was the daughter of David Clarence "Dave" Bryant (1869-1926) and Martha Ann "Marthy" Freeman (1870-1855). Both of Maggie's parents were born in Claiborne Co., TN, lived and died there. They are buried in the Scott Cemetery in Harrogate, Claiborne Co., TN.
Johny and Maggie were married about 33 years. Maggie raised Johny's children from his previous marriage plus she and Johny had three known children of their own. They were Donald J. "Donnie" Thacker (1944- ) and R. C. Thacker (1946- ). A third child, Joyce Ann Thacker (1948-1948,) died at birth.
Johny died on Jan. 11, 1973 in Middlesboro, Bell Co., KY at the age of 72. At the time his residence was Claiborne Co., TN. Johny was buried in the Burch Cemetery in Claiborne where his first wife Daisy is buried. Johny's parents, George and Cynthia Thacker, are also buried in this cemetery.
