Former Farmington Resident Passes Away in Falls Hospital

Joseph B. Conner, 80, former owner of Conner's grocery store at Farmington, passed away at a Great Falls hospital Friday after a short illness. Funeral services were conducted Monday at Croxford's mortuary in Great Falls with Dr. Carl M. Davidson officiating. Burial was in Highland cemetery, in Great Falls, where Mr. and Mrs. Conner have lived since 1942.

Conner had been chief engineer of the Great Falls work, was three times a member of the state legislature from Teton county and an operator of grocery stores at both Farmington and Great Falls.

He was the youngest and last male survivor of the Conner family. Survived by his wife, Hannah, the couple would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in a few weeks. Connor was born Nov. 10, 1867 in Ontario, Canada, and came with his parents to the United States when he was three months of age. He came to Great Falls in 1902, and from 1906 to 1910 he was chief engineer of the Great Falls water works. He then operated a grocery store in Great Falls until 1917.

He and his wife then moved to Farmington where they operated a grocery store until 1942, when they purchased another grocery store in Great Falls, which they ran until 1946, when Conner retired, he and his wife going to California. Almost three months ago they returned to Great Falls and were living with his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Hasterlik.
