MISS ETHEL TOWNER 75, DIES ON SUNDAY
FUNERAL HELD ON TUESDAY|
Daughter of Late Senator Was Member of Family Among Pioneer Settlers at Towners.
Miss Ethel Towner, aged 76, a resident of Towners nearly all her life and member of a family that settled there about 1770. died on Sunday, Jan. 25, 1959, at the Mahopac Hospital where she had been, a patient for about a week. She was removed to the hospital from the Pawling Pines Nursing Home where she had resided for the past nine months.
The deceased was a daughter of the late Senator James E. Towner and Linnie Nichols Towner, and one of a family of five children. She was born March 7, 1882 at the Towners homestead which had been owned by the family since it was built by Samuel Towner, the founder of the family at Towners. Several generations of the family lived at the homestead and it was here that Miss Towner resided until a few years ago when the Towner family sold it.
She attended the local schools and then devoted her life to care of the home. She was a member of the Patterson grange, the Patterson Baptist church at Towners and Enoch Crosby Chapter DAR. Surviving are two brothers, Harry of Yonkers, and Dr. Albert N. Towner of Towners. Two other brothers, John and James E. Towner predeceased her.
Funeral services were held at the Dwyer Funeral Home" in Patterson, Tuesday evening and were conducted by the Rev. Earl Dakin, pastor of the Patterson Baptist church. Interment was made in the family plot in the Baptist cemetery at Towners.
