David Heaton, a pioneer mining man and contractor of Colorado, died at his home in Denver yesterday after a short illness. He was 64. He formerly lived in Colorado Springs.
Mr. Heaton was born in Bradford, England, and came to the United States in his early youth. When he was 18 he entered the contracting business in Denver.
He was a prominent mine operator at Cripple Creek and Victor for many years and for a period of eight years engaged in quarrying at Salida. Mr. Heaton returned to Denver fifteen years ago and was in the mining and granite business.
Only last week he completed negotiations to reopen a mining property at Victor. He was associated in business with J. W. Ady, Jr., for some time.
Mr. Heaton is survived by his widow and four sons, John D. Heaton, Colorado Springs; Earl H. Heaton, Detroit; and David, Jr., and Donald, both of Denver.
Funeral arrangements have not been completed.
