VIRGINIA BEACH - Anne Womack Phelps, 81, of the 600 block of Basilica Court, Fairfield, died March 16, 2006, at Sentara Leigh Hospital after a brief illness.
She was a native of Norfolk and had worked at the Sears Service Center in the personnel department and later at the Norfolk Virginia Postal Credit Union. A lifelong member of Coleman Place Presbyterian Church and an avid bridge player, she had belonged to several bridge clubs and Fairfield Garden Club.
She was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Edwin Andrew Phelps Jr.; and a brother, James T. Womack Jr. Survivors include two sons, Edwin A. Phelps III and his wife Amy of Wexford, Pa. and Philip T. (Tommy) Phelps and his wife Denise (DeeDee) of Virginia Beach; a daughter, Karen Phelps Cookson and husband Robert, also of Virginia Beach; a sister, Jean W. Wood of Glen Allen, Va.; and five grandchildren, Edwin (E.e.) IV, Eric James and Emma Luginbuhl of Wexford and Sylvia Anne (Annie) and Thomas Joseph Edwin (TJ) of Virginia Beach.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Coleman Place Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Fred Archer. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to Coleman Place Presbyterian Church, 1513 E. Sewells Point Road, Norfolk, VA 23502.
Anne was a woman who would prefer to remain in the background providing direction, motivation and protection concerning issues of the family.
