Lily O. Roelse, 86, of 6227 County Trunk OK, was "Promoted to Glory" to be with the Lord in Wednesday, Sept. 20, 1995 at her home.

Lily was born July 17, 1909 in Wahbeton, N.D., a daughter of the late Adolph and Ida (Boettcher) Schroeder. She attended schools in North Dakota.

Upon moving to Sheboygan, Lily Schroeder married Gustave Swanson in 1935. After his death she married Ingvald Lilyquist in 1959. Following Ingvald's death, she married Gillis Roelse in 1969. Mr. Roelse preceded her in death on July 20, 1982.

Mrs. Roelse had been employed at the Jung Shoe Factory for many years. She was a soldier in The Salvation Army, volunteering in and being in charge of The Salvation Army Food Pantry for many years. Lily will be best remembered as the Christmas Kettle volunteer for The Salvation Army at the Sheboygan Mall for the last 20 years. She was very active within The Salvation Army. She was a Silver Star mother and a member of Home League, Songsters, Corps Council and the League of Mercy.

Survivors include two daughters, Gloria (Donald) Grunow, Sheboygan; and Major Jean (David) Bowler, Spokane, Wash.; a son, Glen (Nella) Swanson, Scottsdale, Ariz.; seven step-daughters, Susan Genske, Cleveland; Catherine (Gerald) Lilyquist and Virginia (Gilbert) Mertes, both of sheboygan; Dorothy (Bradford) Canterbury, Escanaba, Mich.; Lillian (Robert) Bernico, Joliet, Ill.; Ruth (Ray) Green, Fond du Lac; and Verna (Geore) Bernico, Henderson, Nev.; ten step-sons; Edward Roelse, Chattanooga, Tenn.; Abraham Roelse, Gillis Jr. (Diane) Roelse and Donald (Carol) Roelse, all of Sheboygan; Clifford (Judy) Lilyquist, Hancock; Karl (Josephine) Lilyquist, Orange, Texas; David (Frances) Lilyquist, Nekooska; Westley Lilyquist, Longview, Texas; Wilford (Betty) Lilyquist and Paul (Marion) Lilyquist, both of Henderson, Nev.; nine grand children, Donald Grunow, Stacy Grunow, Garry (Cheryl) Grunow, Jami (Paul) Ross, Kristi Grunow, John (Rebecca) Potts, Jeffrey (Lisa) Potts, Joseph (Kathy) Potts, and Julie (Victor) Wagner, 13 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, two special nieces, Gladys Richter and Shirley Richtger, both of Sheboygan, 102 step-grandchildren, 50 step-great-grandchildren and other family members and friends. Mrs. Roelse was preceded in death by a sister, Laura Richter; two brothers, Alvin Schroeder and Allen Schroeder, a granddaughter, a step-daughter, Beatrice and a step-son George.

A funeral service will be held for Lily on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 3 p.m. at The Salvation Army, 710 Pennsylvania Ave., Sheboygan, with Capt. Jeff Smith and Capt. Norman Grainger officiating. Burial will take place in Wildwood Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Ramm-Ziegler-Novak-Rettke Funeral Home, Southside Chapel, on Friday, Sept. 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday at The Salvation Army from 2 p.m. until the time of the services at 3 p.m.

A memorial fund has been established in Lily's name, for The Salvation Army.
