Captain Charles P. Christiansen, 73, veteran lake captain, died late Monday afternoon in a Madison hospital, where he had been a patient for nearly five years. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2pm from the Watawa, Urbanek and Schiel funeral home, the Rev. Victor Nearhoof of the St. Paul's M.E. Church officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Capt. Christiansen was born in this city and when a young man became a sailor on the Great Lakes. After several years he acquired his own vessel, the Jessie Martin, which he sailed until 20 years ago when he retired. For a number of years he was a shipping clerk at the Smalley company plant, until illness forced him to retire. Fifty years ago he married Miss Emma Houghton of this city. She died four years ago. Survivors are four daughters, Mrs. A.F. Scholtz of Wausau, Mrs. David O'Connell of Milwaukee, Mrs. George Carbon of West Bend, Mrs. Gertrude Hauson of Madison; two sons, Harold of this city, Dr. C.L. Christiansen of Milwaukee and six grandchildren. The body may be viewed in the funeral home from Wednesday noon until the hour of the services Thursday.
