Lewis Barge was the second signer of the Liberty Point Reserves,there's a large Monument on the Square in the old Historical part of Town with all the names of signer's.

Lewis also served in the Revolutionary War. He owned The Barge Tavern in Fayetteville, North Carolina, that has been preserved by the Chamber of Commerce of Fayetteville, NC, its the second oldest buliding in Fayetteville. He was instrumental in having the town named Cross Creek and was active in politics.

Lewis was the Son of William Barge and the Grand Son of Ludwich Bach, who was from Germany. He came to America and lived in German Town Pennsylvania. Where Lewis Barge was born, in German Ludwich Bach translates to Lewis Barge.

Lewis married Mary Kelly Porterfield b: 1750 in Fayetteville, Cumberland, North Carolina, after her early death He later married Christiana b: 03 Nov 1748 d: 27 Jun 1844.
Lewis is buried in The Barge section of Cross Creek Cemetery next to Him are his Children and Grand Children.

We were back in Fayetteville, NC, in Sept.-2013 for the Sons of The Revolution Marker Service for my GGGG Grand Father Lewis Barge what a Honor to be there with several other Family Member's I had the Honor of helping The President of The Sons Of the Revolution unveil the Marker for Lewis it was very Special to me and very humbling.
After the Marker Dedication Service we had a Reception in The Barge Tavern that belonged to my 4th. Great Grand Parents what a Special day.

In Memory Of Lewis Barge,
Esquire who Departed This Life After A Lingering Indisposition on The 2nd.Day Of February AD 1809 Aged 68 Years.
He Was From Philadelphia and Amongst The Earliest Settelers Of Cross Creek And By His Industry Contributed Much To The Prosperity Of The Town Within Which He Filled Some Of The Important Offices Discharging Them With Firmness And Impartiality.
