Mike as he was known to everyone was a long time resident of Mercedes, Texas. He was born in Poteet, Texas on October 11th, 1934 to his parents Miguel Gomez and Teodora Vela Gomez.
As a young man, Mike served his country in the National Guard. Once returning to Mercedes, he started as a journey man plumber which was the path that took him finally to become a master plumber and owner of his own business. He was very faithful to Our Lady of Mercy Church and his community. Mike was very well known and respected by all.
Mike is survived by his wife of 51 years Frances Gomez. He is also survived by sons Carlos (Abigail) Gomez, Mike (Linda) Gomez, David Gomez and daughters Alma (Tony) Zepeda and Yolanda Gomez and 15 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Mike is also survived by 3 sisters Rosa Cantu, Olivia Gomez, Oralia Gomez and one brother Ramiro Gomez.
He was preceded in death by his father Miguel Gomez; mother Teodora Gomez, brothers Roberto Gomez, Raymundo Gomez and Guadalupe Gomez.
Visitation will be today, Sunday, September 5, 2010 from 1:00p.m. to 9:00p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00p.m. tonight.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, September 6, 2010. We will depart Rudy Garza chapel of Peace at 9:30a.m. for a 10:00 mass at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church.
Interment will then follow at Mercedes Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family would like to thank everyone who offered kind words and prayers. Special thanks to Dr. Murthy Badiga who was of great service during his extended illness.
