Toughie was a stray in our neighborhood and very shy around people. In February 1989 I finally coaxed him with food and we became good friends. He was old then. He was the sweetest old tom cat and the best "lap cat" we ever had. We had him neutered on 23 May 1989. While visiting family in California on Christmas 1993 we received a call that he was ill with kidney failure and had to give instructions to put him to sleep.
