Rebecca Heiser was the eldest child of Samuel and Mary Myerly Trine. She was born at Pipe Creek, located near Westminster, Maryland, in what was then rural Baltimore County. Years later this became a part of Carroll County. On March 11, 1838, she wed Peter Heiser in Hanover, York County, Pennsylvania. This marriage produced ten children. The couple emigrated to Springport, Michigan sometime before the Civil War. Land Records indicate they owned property in Eaton County (Hamlin Township) in 1858. Although the headstone shows the spelling of the surname as "Heiser" an alternative spelling of "Heisser" is equally used in the written records.
