George's parents were Arthur C. and Cora Alice Claypool Byers. He was born in the same home his dad was born in Greene Co.,MO. George graduated from Dadeville High School, Dadeville, MO in 1932. He married Jewell Marjorie Simmons on May 30, 1936 in Springfield, MO. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to California where their two oldest daughters, Margaret Alice and Georgie Ann, were born. He was employed by C & H Sugar Co. then Hercules Powder Co. At the end of WW II he asked Hercules to transfer him to the Carthage, MO plant. A third daughter, Judy Kay, was born in Carthage. In 1950 he and Jewell bought the Curtis farm, west of Carthage, where they remained until Jewell's death in 2002. George couldn't live alone, so he finished his life out at Carthage Health and Rehab where he died Nov. 10, 2004. He was a member of the Pleasant View Baptist Church, Carthage, MO.
