1857 engraving of "Farmlands" in Catonsville. "Farmlands" was the summer home of Gustav Lurman, Sr.,(1808-1866). His town house was on West Franklin Street in Baltimore City.

From an old ad for "Farmlands": "TO LET - unfurnished - for a term of years. Brick house, stuccoed, 110 by 40 feet. Basement commodious and convenient for housekeeping. First floor, seven rooms and hall, some large. Second, nine bedrooms, roomy halls and passages. Third, seven rooms and halls. Four bathrooms, two new furnaces, abundant water, electric lighting. Separate servants' house, four rooms. Ice house, stone stable, twelve stalls, ten carriages…"

Charles Harvey Lapole was the caretaker for the Lurman estate in Catonsville from Nov 1917 until he became ill in Nov 1932.
