John was born April 1820 in Biddenden, County Kent, England, the 4th of 8 children born to Edward Finn/Fenn & Hannah Honour Ailward.

He married Mary A. Bartlett on 10 May 1845 in Marden, County Kent, England.
John & Mary A. had 4 other children in addition to those listed below:
*Emma Finn Makinson (b. 1853 Ohio, d. abt. 1897 Arkansas,
m. 21 December 1873 to Thomas Makinson)
*3 who were born & died in England between Feb 1846, and May 1849 when he immigrated.
John, wife & young daughter, Mary Ann, landed first in New Jersey, and then settled in Ohio.
Sadly, John died just 7 weeks before his youngest, Jemima, was born.
