Actor. A native of Worthing, Sussex, England, Hewett will be forever remembered for his role as English butler 'Lynn Aloysius Belvedere' in the television series, "Mr. Belvedere", from 1985 to 1990. Born of both English and Irish descent, he was the son of an actress who worked on a plantation in Malaysia. A stage actor in Ireland by the age of 7 ("A Midnight Summer's Dream"), Hewett later attended the Wimbledon College, before joining the British Armed Services. He served two years in the Royal Air Force, but was discharged at the age of 18. Hewett later joined the Oxford Repertory Company and appeared in 104 plays there. In World War II, he served as an air raid warden. In 1954, he moved to the United States and settled in New York City where he began appearing on Broadway in such productions as "My Fair Lady" in 1956. A devout Catholic, Hewett was also a descendent of Irish political agitator Daniel O'Connell. Other credits of Hewett's include the films, "Pool Of London" (1951), "The Lavender Hill Mob" (1951), "The Million Pound Note" (1953), "The Producers" (1968), "The Elephant Man" (1982), Massarati And The Brain" (1982), "Ratboy" (1986), and the television programs, "E/R", "Fantasy Island", "Mike Hammer", "Murder She Wrote", "Hart To Hart", "Robert Montgomery Presents", "California Dreams", and "Ned And Stacey." He was also a panelist on the game show, "The New Hollywood Squares" in 1986. Hewett passed away from complications of diabetes, at the age of 80.
