Specialist Four Gary Freeman was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army, SP4 Freeman served our country until June 23rd, 1969 in Quang Nam, South Vietnam. He was 20 years old and was not married. Gary died when his vehicle crashed. His body was recovered. Gary was born on August 1st, 1948 in Windsor, Bertie County, North Carolina. The family was living in Norfolk,Va. at the time of his death. SP4 Freeman is on panel 22W, line 118 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for one year.

Army Sp4 Gary Freeman, a son of Raleigh and Mrs Velma S Freeman of 2408 Maltby Avenue, Norfolk, was killed in Vietnam on June 23 while on a military mission. the Defense Department notified his parents on Thursday. A native of Windsor, he was a grandson of the Reverend and Mrs H. G. Swain of Windsor. He was a graduate of Southwestern High School and before his induction into the Army on April 4, 1968, attended Norfolk State College. He was a member of New Hope Church of God in Christ. Freeman had been in Vietnam eight months. Besides his parents and grandparents, he is survived by a brother, Anthony L Freeman of Norfolk. Funeral arrangements are to be announced upon arrival of the body at Graves Funeral Home in Norfolk: Hampton Roads Pilot, June 27, 1969.
He served with Charlie Troop, 1st Squadron, 1st Cavalry, Americal Division, USARV.
He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, The Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medals.
