Civil War Veteran; Grand Army of the Republic.
9th New York Cavalry, Company F
Enlisted Sept. 20,1861, Age 18, at Sugar Grove New York. Mustered in as a Private, Co. E, 9th Cavalry, November 7, 1861, to serve three years. Missing in action at Phillimon, VA June 22, 1863. Returned October 28, 1863; re-enlisted December 20, 1863; appointed Corporal January 1, 1861. Mustered out with Company July 17, 1865 at Clouds Mills, VA.

Death of Amos E Woodin

Amos E. Woodin was born in Freehold, Warren county, Pa., July 20, 1844, and died at the home of his sister, Mrs. Evalyn Sandbrook, in Fremont township, January 14, 1918, at the age of 73 years, five months and 24 days.

In September, 1861, at the age of 17 years, he enlisted in the 9th N. Y. cavalry, serving until the close of the war.

He came to Michigan in the fall of 1865 and lived with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Woodin, in Lincoln township until his marriage January 13, 1866, to Miss Minty Holcomb of Ionia. To this union were born three children, two of whom have preceded him to the home beyond.

He was a member of the G. A. R. and the I.O.O.F. lodge of thjs city, the latter for over forty years.

Funeral services were held at the Sandbrook home, Wednesday, January 16th, and interment in the Lincoln cemetery.

During his lingering illness he was cared for by his faithful wife, who is left with his two brothers, Llewellyn of Mansfield, Wash., E. J. of Union township, and four sisters, Mrs. Emma Ayling, Mrs. Emeline Francisco, Mrs. J. W. Coffin of this city, and Mrs. Evalyn Sandbrook of Fremont townsip.

1880 Census that shows Minty w husband Amos and 3 children (including Jessie). She is also named in Amos’s obituary on his Find A Grave Memorial.
