Son of Franz & Franzeska Machal Kolba of Vienna, Austria; husband of Marya Hehne Kolba (1848-1925); father of Rudolf Thomas Kolba (b.1882).
Born in Vienna, Austria, of Moravian ancestry, Mr. Kolba came to New York aboard the Hamburg liner SS Kaiserin Augusta Victoria and settled in Harrison, NJ, where he was employed as Chief Engineer, Worthington Pump Corporation. He had a house built on nearby Kingsland Avenue (completed c.1906) where he resided with his wife, the former Marya Hehne, and their only child, Rudolf (b.1882). An avid motorist, in his later years he particularly enjoyed outings with his grandchildren: Thomas (b.1909), William (b.1911), Mary Kolba Schaaf (b.1913), Elizabeth (b.1921), & Edward (b.1923). In the summer of 1925 he suffered a fatal heart attack at age 76. His widow, Marya (a.k.a. "Mary") passed away less than 3 months later and was buried beside him. An infant grandson and namesake Thomas Kolba (d.1909), who had predeceased him is buried nearby.
