Born in his family's ancestral village just south of Warsaw, in what was then Polish Russia but is now in Poland in October 1886, the son of Naftali Saperman (later Anglicized to Nathan Sapirman) and his wife Dora (nee Millenband) Sapirman, Louis Sapirman came to the United States in 1891 when he was five. An entertainer - he played the violin, and at age 14 starred on the stage in the Jewish theatre - he married Rosie Berkowitz of Romania in 1905; what became of her continues to be a mystery to this very day. All that is known is that Rosie either died or divorced Louis, so that by 1909 he married Edith Brummer, who was a dancer on the Jewish stage. Together, Louis and Edith had the following children:

Rose "Ruth" Sapirman Cintron (1909-1993)
Irving Sapirman (1911-1985)
Elias "Eli" Sapirman (1914-1984)
Miriam "Mimi" Sapirman Horlick (1916-1995)
Nathaniel "Nat" Sapirman (1926-1969)

Louis died in New York of heart failure in November 1944 at the age of 58, and he was laid to rest in Mt. Hebron Cemetery, Queens, New York. His widow Edith, who survived him by 12 years, is buried not too far from him in the same cemetery.

Louis and Edith are my great-grandparents. May they always rest in peace.
