Nathaniel Chase was the son of Jonathan and Patience (Heath) Chase. He was born in the John Chase homestead in Hampton (now part of Seabrook) on 5 April 1746. He died in January 1834. He married in 1773 Sarah Sanborn. Sarah was b. 21 Dec 1755 dau. of Reuben and Elizabeth (Ward) Sanborn. Sarah died in October 1844. (See Note 1). They resided on the lot at 151 Berry Pond Rd. opposite Berry pond. Nathaniel is considered an early settler of Pittsfield, settling here about 1768-1770. His original log cabin and the replacement farmhouse are no longer standing, however there is a house standing (Weldon's) on the site of the original Nathaniel Chase homestead. Nathaniel Chase is buried in Chase Grave #1 of 7 counting left to right. See History of Pittsfield, NH, E. Their children were:
1. Simon Chase b. 19 Apr 1774-5 d. 11 Sep 1814 M. Huldah Peaslee. Simon was killed at the Battle of Plattsburgh, New York. His children were all born in Pittsfield, New Hampshire. After his death, his wife Huldah moved this family to Lynnfield, Massachusetts, and later to Salem, Mass.
2. Patience Chase b. no record d. young
3. Elizabeth Chase b. no record d. about 1807 m. David Chase of Hampton Falls, NH.
4. Jonathan Chase b. 2 Jan 1781 d. 5 Dec 1856 Farmer, drover, stone contractor, bridge builder. His son Nathaniel E. Chase erected a large monument in Old Meetinghouse Cemetery in Pittsfield. Jonathan m. Abiah Hanson b. 13 Mar 1788 m. 25 Feb 1805 d. 6 Apr 1840 daughter of Solomon Hanson. Mother of 10 children, the younger of whom were raised in the care of the Canterbury Shaker Community after her death.
5. Freelove Chase b. no record d. 8 Nov 1865 in Moultonborough, NH. She was married to Gerritt Barry of Portsmouth, NH.
6. Patience Chase b. 1786 m. Jonathan T. Chase on 10 Jul 1813, son of John Chase and Martha Thurston of Pittsfield, NH. Jonathan m2. Polly ?.
7. Joseph Chase b. 1788
8. Nehemiah Chase b. no record s.p.
9. Mary Chase b. no record s.p.
10. Sally Chase b. 29 Mar 1794 d. 26? Dec 1885 Died unmarried-blind several years. Lived in Pittsfield; living in 1881 on public relief funds from the Town of Pittsfield (See 1881 Town Report of Pittsfield, p. 7).
