Funeral services for Asa Holt, 74, Payne Springs, were held Monday afternoon at 3:30 in the Payne Springs Baptist Church, with Rev. J.W. Williford and Rev. A.L. Andrews officiating.
Interment was at Payne Springs.
Mr. Holt died Sunday night at 7:30 in a local hospital following a year's illness.
Mr. Holt is survived by five sons, Bernice Holt of Payne Springs, Frank Holt of Beaumont, Bill Holt, stationed in San Diego with the U.S. Navy, L.H. Holt of Meridian, Mississippi, and Joe Holt of Wichita Falls; four daughters, Mrs. Delpa Cain, Eustace, Mrs. Floyce Everett, Eustace, Mrs. Lina Sands, Bovina, Texas, and Miss Maggie Lee Holt, Eustace; three brothers, all of Mississippi, and 24 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Norman Everett, Bencie Everett, Carl Holt, Jack Holt and Jack Stegall.
Mr. Holt had been a resident of the Payne Springs community since 1900, when he moved there from Prentice County, Mississippi. A retired farmer and well known resident of Payne Springs, he was a member of the Baptist Church, having joined that denomination while still a young man in Mississippi.
The Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
