Funeral services for Mrs. Mandy Tinney, who died at her home at Gans Saturday at 4 a.m., were held at the Gans cemetery Sunday afternoon with the Sequoyah Funeral home in charge. Elder G. W. Allen of the church of Christ of which Mrs. Tinney had been a member for the past 60 years, conducted the services.

Amanda "Mandy" Jackson was born in Tennessee on April 26, 1856. While part of a wagon train heading west, she met Nathan Abner Tinney and they married in Pope County, Arkansas on November 15, 1872 when Mandy was just 16. The couple settled in Pope County, where they remained until around 1890. At that time, they moved to Texas for a few years and then to Indian Territory. After trying out various towns across the territory, they finally settled for good in Gans, where Mandy made her home for 35 years. Her husband preceded her in death in 1923.

Thirteen children were born to this union. Survivors are 7 sons: Will of Hoffman, Alfred of Checotah, O. E. of Sallisaw, Lonzo of Morris, John of Longview, Texas, and Elmer and Bryan of the home; 3 daughters: Mrs. Mollie McLaughlin of Morris, Mrs. Nellie Lang of Seminole, and Mrs. Lurie Stevenson of Shawnee. She is also survived by 40 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren.
