Mrs. Mathews was born in Adel, Georgia and was a retired bookkeeper for Marshall Lumber Company. She was a member of Ingleside Baptist Church and was formerly very active with the American Business Women's Association. She was the widow of Florry Merrit Mathews and the daughter of the late William Henry McCranie and Roxie Mullis McCranie.
Mrs. Mathews is survived by her sons, Clifford H. Hardison (Ann) of Lizella, Donald W. Hardison, Sr. (Paulette) of Monroe County, Robert L. Hardison of Roswell and Patrick H. Hardison (Gloria) of Vidalia; eleven grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
