Amos was a twin to Enos Hankins, born 27 Oct 1844 in Madison Co Indiana. By 1848 the Hankins family had moved to Decatur Co Iowa. After marrying Sarah E. Beavers in 1862 the Hankins migrated into Mo. and back to Iowa and then onto Kansas.
Daniel Hankins married Anna Collier were his parents.

Amos and Sarah's first three children were born in Iowa,

Lucinda A. Hankins 31 Jul 1865 b Iowa
Fanny Jane Hankins 24 May 1867 b Villisca, Page Co Iowa which is where Sarah's parents lived at the time
Clara A. Hankins 14 Aug 1869 b Iowa

Charles Cordell Hankins 15 Apr 1872 Dexter Cowley Co Kansas
John William Hankins 20 Dec 1874 Kansas
Ernest Frank Hankins 4 Nov 1878 Dexter Cowley Co Kansas
Nannie Myrtle Hankins 31 Mar 1882 Attica Harper Co Kansas
Thomas Denzil Hankins 6 Nov 1889 possibly Kansas or Okl.

note: It was told me by Lenna Faye Hankins, my aunt that Thomas Denzil was buried next to his grandmother, which would of been Anna Collier Hankins. I have not found a grave site for Thomas or Anna, but with this noted, I am thinking it could be in Kansas or Okl. as there is a few years gap in history written by Charles Cordell that gives the travels of the Hankins from Iowa to Oregon.

Amos never served in the civil war. He was a peaceful and gentle man. He was also a blacksmith in Kansas and Indian agent in Okl. Territory prior to moving westward to Oregon, perhaps via Canon City, Colo. where Amos son Ernest Frank Hankins married his first cousin once removed, Lenna Jane Beavers, in 1901. (Ernest and Lenna are my grandparents)
He was one of ten children, born in this order:
Roland Hankins, Rebecca Hankins, Sarah Jane Hankins, Nancy Hankins, Alexander Hankins, James Hankins, Lucinda Hankins, Amos and Enos Hankins and Mary Ellen Hankins.

More history on this family can be obtained upon request.
The Hankins History Book is in process of being compiled and written at this time.

I have history back into 1770's under the name Of Daniel Hankins from Virginia, Lawrence Co Ohio, Indiana, Ill., Iowa, Mo., Ks., Okl., Colo., Ore., Calif., Texas, and places I still don't know, his sons and daughters lines. Looking for all descendants. Thank you for helping leave our children their heritage and showing them the life that was when we first came to America. In many ways we are pioneers, ourselves. Could you imagine those long stretches of prairie and mountain trails our families traveled and the cold lonely nights when the winds blew and their was no insultation to keep you warm. Oh, I could talk forever from the stories my Grandmother told to me.
