Roy Duffie
--Roy Gardner Duffie, age 68 of Fort Lauderdale, Florida died Tuesday afternoon (October 15, 1996) in Greer, South Carolina.
--The son of James Hayward and Helen (Clark) Duffie her was born April 13, 1928 in Adair County, Missouri. On April 11, 1947 in Kirksville he married Eileen Groenewoud who survives.
--Also surviving are two daughters, Judith Duffie Ouzts of Lyman, South Carolina and Patricia Duffie Seymour of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, five grandchildren, Jason Seymour, Shari Seymour, Sonya Seymour, James Ouzts and Katie Outzs.
--He was preceded in death by his father in September 1987 and his mother on March 13, 1996.
--Mr. Duffie was reared on a farm east of Kirksville and attended the Radical Ridge School, the Kirksville Public Schools and graduated from the Kirksville Senior High School. He attended Northeast Missouri State Teachers College. After his marriage he lived in Kirksville and worked for the Missouri Highway Department in Macon as an appraiser. In the late 1950's he owned and operated the first and only Motorola television dealership in this area at that time from his home on route 6 east. He and his wife attended the very first color T.V. showing in St. Louis.
--In 1957 he moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida and was employed as District Appraiser for the Florida Highway Department until his retirement.
--He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and a former member of the First United Methodist Church here in Kirksville. He was a member of the Society of Real Estate Appraisers. He was a loving husband and father.
--Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Saturday afternoon (October 19, 1996) at the Davis-Playle Funeral Home with the Reverend Eric Anderson officiating. Music will be provided by James Shaddy singing "In The Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross" accompanied by Cheryl Newland organist. Interment will be at a later date in the Highland Park Cemetery.
--Visitation will be after noon of Friday (October 18, 1996) and the family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the Davis-Playle Funeral Home in Kirksville, Mo.
