Myrtle B. Mudgett, 94, a longtime resident of Grand Valley, passed away Monday, October 16, 2000, at Community Hospital on Grand Junction, CO.
Mrs. Collins was born Myrtle Bertha Collins at Chicago, Illinois on May 3, 1906 to John and Louise Geike Collins.
When a small child, the family moved to Harrison in western Nebraska. In March of 1925, she came to Grand Junction and worked for the Grand Junction Seed Co., then operated by Neil Plaisted. She attended Hale Ross Business College in Denver, CO.
On December 21, 1926, she married Claude L. Mudgett in the Brethren parsonage at Appleton. They lived on a farm in the Hunter Community all their married life. Claude and a son, Eugene, preceded her in death. A brother, James Peters, was killed in the Armed Services August 13, 1963.
Three years after Mr. Mudgett's death, she sold the farm and moved to Grand Junction. She worked in the cafeteria for School District #151 for 21 years. Mrs. Mudgett was a charter member of the Hunter Rural Service Club. She was also a member of the Fruita Faith Baptist Church for 39 years where she served as Deaconess for several years.
Survivors include a son, Gordon S.(Carol) Mudgett of Moab UT; a daughter, Mrs. Ray (Donna) Bauman of Marble, CO; a sister, Mrs. Ivan White of Ainsworth. NE; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 18, 2000, at the Fruita Faith Baptist Church, Fruita. Burial will follow in Municipal Cemetery, Grand Junction, CO.
Contributions may be made in her memory to either the Treasury Mtn. Bible Camp, 500 E. Park Street, Marble, CO 81623 of Fruita Faith Baptist Church, 180 S. Elm, Fruita, CO 81521.
