Rachel Kehler - JOHNSON CITY

Rachel Eatherly Kehler, 90, 1408 Ridgecrest Rd., Johnson City, passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2010.

Mrs. Kehler was a native of Lebanon, TN, and a daughter of the late T.H. and Frances Johnson Eatherly.

She attended Cumberland College, Lebanon, from 1938-40 and graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1942 with a degree in Home Economics. Mrs. Kehler then taught in Monterey, TN, until being hired by Dr. C.C. Sherrod to teach at East Tennessee State University in 1946.

She then received a Master's degree in Home Economics from UT in 1953. Mrs. Kehler then continued to teach home management and textiles at ETSU until 1964, when she then became a homemaker and loving mother.

Mrs. Kehler was active in the United Methodist Women at Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church and was a member of the Wednesday Morning Music Club, Monday Club, Garden Club, ETSURA and Southern Dames.

She and her family enjoyed having lunch at Red Pig BBQ, especially Paige Franklin, Jannette Ruess, Sissie Young, Matt Kirkland and Tommy Carr.

Special thanks to Asbury Center, especially Sherry Hicks and Robin Keller, and Appalachian Christian Village, especially Bettie Head, for loving care in her later years.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Kehler was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. George B. Kehler, in 2002; two sisters, Mary Porter Waters and Timothy Dail; and a nephew, Terry Dail.

She is survived by her son, George Bela Kehler II and wife, Susan Ann, Johnson City; a sister, Terrijean Crowell, Lebanon; many beloved nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be conducted Friday, October 8, 2010, at 2:00 P.M. from the Sanctuary of Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church with the Reverend Brian Taylor and the Reverend Michael Lester officiating.

Interment will follow in Monte Vista Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Brooks Crowell, Christopher Crowell, Bob Allen, Bill Breeding, Tommy Carr, David Holben and Tommy Newton.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00-2:00 P.M. in the parlor of the church.

In-lieu-of flowers memorials may be made to Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church, 201 E. Market St., Johnson City, TN 37601.
