Joe Costantino, lifelong community volunteer at 77


He was the former owner of Little Town Cleaners and a lifelong parishioner and selfless volunteer at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Copiague. Mr. Costantino was the founder of the church's Holy Name Society and was a fourth degree Knight of Columbus in OLA and past Grand Knight Emeritus. He was one of the church's first alter boys and was active until his passing, having chaired the annual feast for 25 years, raising over $2 million for charity. Because of his work, he was awarded the St. Agnes Medal of Service from Bishop Murray in 2007.

He was past president of the Copiague Chamber of Commerce and was honored in 2000 as one of the "100 Most Influential People in the Town of Babylon."

Mr. Costantino leaves behind his wife of 56 years

Gloria and his children: Steven and his wife Debra of West Islip, Joseph and his wife Elizabeth of West Islip, Joanne Occhipinti and her husband Anthony of Copiague and Stephanie of Copiague. His grandchildren, Peter, Andrea, Lauren, Jaclyn, Joseph, Anthony II, Alyssa, Nicole, Vanessa and Joseph Andrew III, and his nieces and nephews, Donna and Robert Esp, Keith and Beth Costantino, Janice and Edward Giafone, Paul and Diane Costantino, Vincent and Donna Ingenito and Toni Ingenito also survive him. He reposed at the D'Andrea Brothers Funeral Home,

Copiague, on Nov. 14 and 15, 2009. A Funeral Mass was said on Nov. 16, 2009 at our Lady of the Assumption R.C. Church, Copiague. Interment followed in Trinity Cemetery, Amityville.
