Jennie Baker Chilton Times June 27, 1896

"They're gathering homeward from ev'ry land, One by one! One by one!"

Died – On Friday morning, June 19th, at ten o'clock, Jennie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Baker of Hayton, died suddenly at her home after a brief illness. Thus another shadow his fallen across our path to war us that this is not our abiding place. Jennie, or "Jen" as she was lovingly called by her friends, was born in Hayton, July 28, 1873. She attended the public school until sixteen years of age. Since then she has been at home, the help and comfort of the whole family. She was a consistant Christian, a member of the Episcopal church and a teacher in the Hayton Sunday school. While an ever cheerful helper in church and charitable work, she was also the life of her social circle, for by her ready wit and pleasant, genial ways she was a favorite with all.
The funeral took place from the family residence Sunday afternoon and was the largest ever held in Hayton. The large concourse of people gathered there to do her honor, showed in what high esteem she was held by the entire community. The Sunday school marched to the cemetery in a body carrying flowers, which they dropped on the coffin as a last tribute to their teacher. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Young, pastor of Episcopal church.
Besides a father and mother, she leaves three brothers and three sisters to mourn her death. May the knowledge that they have hosts of friends who deeply sympathize with them in their great bereavement, help them to say "thy will be done."
