Caryol Lee Klingler, 66, of Olney, died at 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 7, 2010, in her home. After a long fight against lung cancer, she finally surrendered the battle.

A memorial service for friends and family will be held from 5-6 p.m. Thursday at First Assembly of God church, located at 2408 E. Main St. in Olney. A dinner will immediately follow at the church, and all are welcome to attend. Flowers may be sent to the church.

Caryol was a transitional advocate/social-services specialist at Stopping Women Abuse Now in Olney, where she worked for eight years before her illness. Prior to that, she worked for several years at Roadmaster/Brunswick in Olney.

She was a Christian who loved reading, gardening, walking, spending time with family, playing various games, and working crosswords. Before her illness, she was also an accomplished amateur artist.

She was a stubborn and strong woman who was always there for her children, her coworkers, and her SWAN clients whenever she was needed. She was a loving and supportive mother, grandmother, and friend. She was deeply loved, and she will be sadly missed.

Caryol is survived by her children, Troy Carter, of Schaumburg; Brenda Carter, of Olney, Dale Carter, of Evanston, Ind.; John Carter and his wife, Ann, of Herrick; Kelly Klingler, of Olney; and Mary McGlasson, of Olney. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Zachary, Selena, Isabel, Madison, and Wesley.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Winnie Saltink, and her father, Lee Eckert.

Cremation services were provided by Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Olney.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southeastern Illinois or American Cancer Society.
