He was a Chicago police officer at the time of the Great Fire, an 1880 Alabama homesteader, and a Chicago carpenter through the latter 1880's. Father of ten children, husband to Rosa Sturm, he retired to the Soldiers Home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and died on November 26, 1911.
