"In Memory of John McClary Sen.
Who departed this life May the 5th, 1833
Aged 73 years
He was one of those that fought for liberty in the Revolutionary Struggle under General Marion and underwent many difficulties and privations under command of that noble officer; and until his death he still maintained and supported the general Republican principle. In his death, the Church Society & family circle have sustained a loss.
He has been an Elder in the Presbyterian Church of Williamsburgh for many years, and although his last sufferings were tedious and very excruciating, yet he bare them with a Christian fortitude and resignation to the will of his God."
"Father I give my spirit up and trust it in thy hand. My dying flesh shall rest in hope and rise at thy command. There shall I see thy lovely face with strong immortal eyes, and feed upon thine unknown grace with pleasure and surprise."
