MRS. R. E. EVANS
Ellen Ann Houghton, daughter of John and Alice Houghton, was born January 29, 1877, and passed from this life at her home in Chariton, Iowa, on Dec. 31, 1944. She was born at West Leigh, Lancashire, England, and with her parents came to America at the age of 9 years.
On Dec. 7, 1896, she was united in marriage to R. E. Evans. To this union six children were born.
Mrs. Evans was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, being baptized in 1908.
She and her husband have resided in Chariton for the past 30 years.
She leaves to mourn their loss her husband, R. E. Evans, four sons and two daughters, John Evans and Mrs. Jessie Dunlap, of Corydon; William Evans and Mrs. Majorie Sipes, of Chariton; Tom Evans, who is overseas in the service of his country; and James Evans, of San Diego, Calif.; 11 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services, conducted by Elder J. W. Blackstock, were held at two o'clock, Thursday afternoon at the Downs funeral home, and burial was in the Chariton cemetery.
