WILLIAM E. EVANS
William E. (Zeke) Evans, son of Richard and Ellen Ann Evans, was born at Centerville, Iowa, June 18, 1899 and passed away at Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, Nov. 21, 1955, at the age of 57 years, six months and three days.
He suffered a stroke two weeks ago, paralyzing his right side and impairing his speech. On Monday, Nov. 21 he suffered another stroke from which he never recovered.
He grew to manhood in Chariton, coming here with his parents, brothers and sisters in 1915, where the rest of his life was spent. He worked in the mines for some time, then he went to work for the Burlington Railroad, where he worked until he was injured on Sept. 20, 1955.
He leaves to mourn three brothers, Jack H. of Corydon, Tom of Lexington, Nebr., and Jim of San Diego, Calif., two sisters, Jessie Dunlap of Corydon and Margory Sipes of Chariton, with whom he made his home since the death of his parents, also several nieces and nephews and several grand-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted by Elder Jake Cackler at the Downs Funeral Home Wednesday, Nov. 23, at 2:30 with interment at the Chariton cemetery. Graveside rites were conducted by the Odd Fellows.
