Nicholas was the son of Nicholas Rogers II and Eleanor (?) Rogers Harris. [Eleanor was only the step-daughter of Jabez Pierpont.]

Nicholas was born about 7 months after the death of his father. His mother was remarried to Lloyd Harris when Nicholas was just a couple months old.

Nicholas married Henrietta Maria (Jones) Rogers (18 Aug 1728 - May 1790) on 18 Aug 1745 in Baltimore County, Maryland.

In 1752, Nicholas owned a house near the corner of Calvert and Baltimore Streets. His brother, William Rogers, was the innkeeper at Rogers’ Inn on the northeast corner of Calvert and Baltimore Streets.

In the 1754 Baltimore County Debt Book, Nicholas Rogers owned part of “Rogers’ Choice,” “Nathan’s Forest,” and two lots in Baltimore Town.

Nicholas built and owned the 'Phillip and Charles', which was the first square-rigged vessel in Baltimore Harbor. The name Phillip was in honor of his father-in-law. In Aug 1886, the remnants of the old vessel were still visible on a branch of North Point Creek.

Nicholas was originally buried in the second St. Paul's Cemetery at Charles and Saratoga Streets. His son, Col. Nicholas Rogers, had his father's remains and the great slab commemorating him moved to this cemetery. His stone documents the earliest burial for which there is physical evidence in Old St. Paul's Cemetery today.
