US Soldier killed at the Battle of the Little Big Horn. Pvt Brogan enlisted for five years into the US Army on March 15, 1871 at Pittsburgh, PA. At the time of his enlistment Brogan was described as 21 yrs old, 5'8", brown hair, hazel eyes with a ruddy complexion. His civilian occupation was teamster. On April 10, 1871, Brogan was assigned to Company F, 7th US Cavalry Regiment at Taylor Barracks, Louisville, KY. His daily duties was herding company horses and cattle, quartermaster teamster and cook. Brogan's enlistment expired on March 15, 1876, at Ft Lincoln, Dakota Territory. He reenlisted on April 1, 1876, at Ft Seward, Dakota Territory. He was assigned to Company E, 7th US Cavalry. Brogan was killed during the Battle of the Little Bighorn. His body was not identified after the battle. It is likely that he was first buried where his unidentified remains were found. Lakota and Cheyenne accounts of the battle, as well as battlefield archeological excavations, revealed that Company E had conducted what appeared to be a well organized and hard fought rear guard action towards Last Stand Hill. In 1881 all known battlefield burials were moved to a mass grave on top of Last Stand Hill.
