She graduated from Ozark High School, and was united in marriage to Clyde Smith on April 7, 1946. During her working career she was a telephone operator, bowling instructor, owned and operated the Ozark Dairy Cup, and worked at Fasco and General Electric. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, quilting, gospel music, Lady Bear Basketball games, and most of all, spending time with her family. Cotton was saved at an early age, and was a faithful member of the Sparta First Baptist Church, and most recently Ozark First Baptist Church.
Survivors include: Two children, Steven Smith and wife, Pam, Springfield, and Renee St. John, Ozark; three granddaughters and their husbands, Jill and Troy Coffer, Sparta, Amy and Kent Sappington, Ozark, and Jeri and Jeff McCoy, Ozark; six great-grandchildren, Lance Patrick, Caleb and Olivia Sappington, Kendall McCoy, Blake Coffer and Macy Brown and husband, Dustin; two sisters, Anne O'Bryan, Kansas City, and Viola Twibell, Ozark; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde, in 2005, a granddaughter, Beth St. John, and eight brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Sunday, October 24 in Adams Funeral Home, Ozark. Burial will be in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM on Sunday until funeral time.
