Stephanie Barney, 21, returned to her Heavenly Father calmly in her sleep Saturday, December 6, 1997 at home in Sandy, Utah, after a valiant life-long battle with Cystic Fibrosis.

She was born July 11, 1976 in Goiania, Golas, Brazil, the daughter of Lawrence (Larry) N. and Helen (Holly) D. Burnham Barney.

Stephanie was reared and educated in Sandy, graduating from Jordan High School in 1994 where she excelled on the swim team. She graduated from Ricks College with an Associates Degree in Elementary Education in 1996, and has attended Utah State University the past two years. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved to attend the Temple since her 21st birthday this past summer.

Stephanie loved life and continuously looked for opportunities to serve others. She loved to read, handicrafts of all kinds, CF Summer Camp, and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her parents; sister, Rachel; brothers, Nathan and Brent; and many loving cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and grandparents, Nathan A. and Maxine Stout Barney; and George I. and Vauna Gunn Burnham. She was greeted upon arrival on the other side by her grandmother, Janice Frampton Burnham; her great-grandparents, Wm. Vere, Helen Doxey and Delight Thomas Frampton; and many of her CF friends.

Her family wishes to thank Dr. Kay B. Walker for her loving care and friendship.

Funeral services will be Thursday, December 11, 1997 at 1 p.m. in the Sandy Utah Stake, 9331 So. 300 E. Friends may call Wednesday 7 to 9 p.m. at the Sandy Utah Stake and 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. prior to services at the church on Thursday. Interment will be at the Holladay Memorial Park, 4900 Memory Lane. Funeral directors: Cottonwood Memorial Mortuary.
