Immigrated to the United States with his mother and siblings in 1846. They arrived in New York City.
Married Hiley Malinda/Melinda Peppard July 21, 1868 in Grasshopper Falls,Jefferson,Kansas. They had 8 children: Odd Belmont, Eva Belmont, Orthdell Belmont(unsure of the spelling)

Served in the Civil War, enlisted as a Union solider on August 17, 1863 at the age of 18. Was a private in the 5th Calvary Kansas Regiment Company M. Transferred out 20 July 1865 into the 15th Calvary Kansas Regiment Company B. He was mustered out on October 19, 1865.

He was a farmer in Oskaloosa,Kansas, per census records. He owned the Geo. Davis Undertaker and Furniture Dealer store in Oskaloosa. He lived in Oskaloosa until his death in 1910. He served as sheriff in 1885.
