Born the 5th child of 8 to George W. Davis(born in England) and Hila Malinda Peppard(born in Worster, Ohio). In early 1912 JG and his brother Frederick with his new bride came to Texas.
JG married Ethel King on 21 April 1915 at Southside Christian Church in San Antonio, Texas; by W.T. Packard Doctor of Divinity.
To this marriage 4 children were born: Bertha C (1916-1917), James Edwin (1917-1992), George Clinton (1919-1940), and Lucille (1924-2005).
JG worked on the farm in Kansas as a kid growing up. When he moved to Texas he worked as a food inspector at the San Antonio Produce Terminal until his death.
JG was a member of the Modern Woodsmen of America.
JG and Ethel were playing cards(pinochle)one evening at home. He looked at his cards, laid them on the table, and said "I'm going to beat you!" He had a massive heart attack and died right there.

Funeral services for James Garfield Davis, 543 Barrett Pl., will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Alamo Funeral home.
Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Ethel K. Davis; son, James E. Davis; daughter, Mrs. H. T. Armstrong all of San Antonio; sister, Miss Eva Davis, of Oskaloosa, Kansas, and Mrs. John Skinner of Glenwood, Ia.; brother, Fred E. Davis, San Antonio; Odd, George and Clinton Davis, Oskaloosa, Kan.
