George signed all his letters that he sent home to the family, "Just George". He didn't like his middle name.

George like his brother James had blonde hair and blue eyes. But, George was the tall and slender brother. He looked like his father.

He never married.

He was a graduate of Brackenridge High School in San Antonio, Texas, 1939.

George was a member of South Side Christian Church in San Antonio, Texas.

George served as the best man in his brother's wedding (Nov 9, 1940). Then two weeks later went out to Fort Sam Houston Army Base and enlisted. His service number was 1298833.
He was given the rank of Sergerant. He was promoted to Lt. prior to leaving the US and going to England for training on the jump into France.

George was a member of the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment (WW-II) - the famed Red Devils - 82nd Airborne Division in World War II.

Lt. Davis was a member of Company Hq/2.

When his company parachuted into France George's Captain stepped on a land mine that killed him and severly wounded George. He was taken to the hospital in Cherboug, France. He died from his wounds several days later.

At his mother's request his body was brought back to San Antonio, Texas. It took almost four years for his body to be brought back to the United States for burial in San Antonio, Texas. Several of his high school buddies worked at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas. They checked the manifests and the day George's casket arrived in San Antonio they notified Mrs. Davis that George was home. She wanted to know that his body was in the casket. Because, she had heard that sometimes the Army sent home empty caskets. The boy's said,"No Mama Davis we checked. George is in the casket." That was good enough for her. The US Army wanted to bury him at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Mama Davis fought with them and won. He is buried next to his mother. Right where she wanted him.

First Lieutant George Clinton Davis was buried May 7, 1948, in San Antonio, Texas.

Post humerously George was awarded a Purple Heart and a Combat Infantry Badge.
