She married Edwin J. Schmidt on Oct. 29, 1935, in Victoria. He died May 21, 2000.
She was a seamstress and worked in food service at Fort Hays State University for 10 years. She was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and the Daughters of Isabella, both of Hays.
Survivors include a son; Stanley R., and his wife Sharon, Friendswood, Texas, three daughters, Joan K. Wellbrock, and her husband, Gene, Victoria, Doris A. Macek Humbach, and her husband, Mike, Friendswood, and Lois J. Wagner, and her husband, Bob, Las Cruces, N.M.; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Schmidt, Overland Park; a brother, Clarence Billinger, Victoria; a sister, Alberta Augustine, Hays; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Verlyn J. Schmidt, a brother, Alfred Billinger, two sisters, Katherine Kuhn and Mathilda Kippes, and a great-grandson, Peyton Weber.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Father Earl Befort officiating; burial in St. Fidelis Cemetery, Victoria. A Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday followed by a parish vigil service at 6:30 p.m. at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 20th and Pine. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Thomas More Prep-Marian High School or the Capuchin Province of Mid-America.
