George was one of seven Marling siblings who grew up on a farm near Quaqueton, Iowa. He served in the US Navy in WWII in the south Pacific and married Virginia after that tour. They spent most of their married life in the Chicago area where Geo worked for a construction company. There were no children. They retired in Waterloo and George spent his last years in the VA hospital in Marshalltown, IA.
