Born on the Feast of the Assumption in Denver, Irma grew up in Spokane where her family moved while she was still a toddler. She attended Sacred Heart School and Holy Names Academy. Piano lessons began when she was about 10. She soon added the organ. Later she was the accompanist for the children's choir at Sacred Heart. She attended Eastern Washington College of Education (now Eastern Washington University) where she earned a teaching degree and also added the violin to her accomplishments.

After graduation she came to Grandview where she taught third grade and music. Here she met the love of her life, Royal Womach, a fellow teacher and the football coach at Grandview High School. In 1942 she and her mother traveled to Norfolk, Virginia, to marry Royal who had enlisted in the Navy.

After the war, they returned to Grandview where Royal began a career in real estate and Irma took on the vocation of wife and mother. As parents are the primary educators of their children, she continued her previous career only this time it was focused on her three sons and a daughter. Her home on Third and Douglas reflected her devotion to her family. She was active in the community and supported her children and other children in scouting, sports, and dance programs. She and Royal supported the Chamber of Commerce for over fifty years; she worked for many years on the Grandview float committee. After her children were grown, she took up golf; Royal and Irma enjoyed golf with their many friends and Irma continued for many years after Royal's death.

She was an active member of the Altar Society at Blessed Sacrament Church. As the organist at Blessed Sacrament, she was a memorable part of parish life providing music not only for Mass and other parish events but also sharing the joys and sorrows of many at countless weddings and funerals. Any money she received for these occasions was always donated to the Holy Names sisters in Spokane.
