Victor F. Opichka

Victor F. Opichka, age 91, formerly of Fisherville Road, Cato, died early on Wednesday morning. Feb. 18, 2009, at River's Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center, Manitowoc.

Victor was born on June 15, 1917, in the town of Cooperstown, Manitowoc County, son of the late Edward and Anna (Wanish) Opichka. Victor attended the Rosecrans School in the town of Cooperstown. He married the former Martha Lemberger on Sept. 15, 1938, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Whitelaw. She preceded him in death on April 5, 2002. In his younger years, Victor drove a gravel truck for Zeman Construction. He then farmed in the town of Cooperstown until his retirement in 1980. He and Martha moved to Manitowoc in 1997. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church Kellnersville, and was an active member of the Maribel Sportsmen Club, attended meetings and working at picnics. Victor enjoyed farming, fishing, dancing and being with family and friends. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren helping him on the farm.

He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law: Ronald (Dorothy) Opichka, Manitowoc; one daughter and son-in-law: Jeanette (Alvin) Leick, Manitowoc; six grandchildren: Gary (Lynn) Opichka; Diane (John) Dawidowich; Wendy (Todd) Jaeger; Keith (Terry) Opichka; Allan (Brenda) Leick; and Sherry (Dan) Kugel; 11 great-grandchildren: Drew, Kate and Mikala Opichka; Tom and Jason Leick; Josh Bowen; Zackary, Emily and Samuel Dawidowich; and Owen and Lucas Opichka; and one sister-in-law: Molly Opichka, Manitowoc. Victor was preceded in death by one brother: Quirin Opichka; one sister and brother-in-law: Grace (Joe) Polak; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Joe (Gladys) Lemberger; Jack (Marcella) Lemberger; Reiner (Loraine) (Edna) Lemberger; Joe (Agnes) Meidl; and Richard (Mary) Herrmann.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kellnersville. The Rev. Rallen Stencil will officiate with, burial to follow in the parish cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call at church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11 a.m.

The Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home of Kellnersville is serving the Opichka family.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of River's Bend Health and Rehabilitation for the kind and compassionate care that Dad received the past two years.
