Warren Packard, III, passed away on Sunday, October 24, 2010 at his Chattanooga, TN home surrounded by his family and loved ones.

Warren was a veteran of the Korean War and World War II, decorated First Lieutenant, respected and loved life and its freedoms the United States bestowed upon him. A philanthropist at heart, he loved his country and worked to make his community a better place.

He was the son of Dorothy and Warren Packard, II and the grandson of William Doud Packard and great nephew of James Ward Packard, the founders of the Packard Automobile Company. He grew up in Detroit, MI area and graduated in 1949 with an Agriculture Economics and Farm Management Degree from Michigan State University. An engineer, Packard worked for Spun Steele Division in Birmingham, MI. Committed to his community, Packard served on the Tax Revenue Board and the Animal Control Agency for the City of Troy, MI.

A devout family man, he married Sally Jane Cote and they had three daughters. Packard enjoyed life to the fullest traveling with his family and friends to all parts of the world. He enjoyed racing sailboats and participated in numerous Port Huron-to-Mackinac races. He also enjoyed ice boating, woodworking, and alpine skiing. However his true passion was Fox Hunting. Not only was Packard the Master of Fox Hounds of the Metamora Hunt in Metamora, MI, but he was a Director of the Master of Fox Hounds Association of America.

Inducted into the Automobile Hall of Fame in 1999, he received the Automotive Hall of Fame's Induction Award for the significant impact the Packard Automobile Company had on the automobile industry.

Packard is survived by his daughters, Carolyn Limerick, her husband, Matt, and grandchildren, Matthew and Lindsey, as well as Laura Jenkins and her husband, Driscoll, and Lisa Phillips, her husband, Carl, and their children, Lucy and Carl Thomas.

He was the definition of a gentleman, and not only a Jack of all trades but a master of them all.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 29, 2010 at Roberts Clark Chapel of Lane Funeral Home, 180 Garfield Drive, N.E., Warren, OH 44483.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at Roberts Clark Chapel of Lane Funeral Home.

Burial will follow in the Packard Section of Oakwood Cemetery, Warren, OH.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Packard's name to the Packard Museum, 1899 Mahoning Avenue, N.W., Warren, OH, 44483.
