Burkett Newton Williams, 93, of Riceville, passed away Friday morning, Oct. 22, 2010, at Woods Memorial Hospital.
A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late Charles Hugh and Mary Ettie Dalan Williams and was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Payne Williams on March 22, 2001; and two sons, Charles Newton Williams and Herman Dale Williams.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II. He retired from Athens Stove Works after 40 years of service and was a member of Woodward Church of God.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Roger Dale Williams Sr. and Bambia, of Athens; three grandchildren, Roger Dale Williams Jr. and wife, Lonisa, Charles Lee Williams and Jacob David Williams, all of Riceville; two great-grandchildren, Samantha Rae Williams and Nicholes Charles Williams; one sister, Ina Pearl Bryant of Etowah; one brother, Ray Williams of Etowah; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Ziegler Funeral Home with Minister Anthony Wynn officiating. Burial will follow in New Zion Cemetery in Etowah.
The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Lewis Bryant, Roger Dale Williams Jr., Nicholes Charles Williams, Jacob David Williams, Jimmy Price and Caleb Wells.
