Mrs. Sarah Joas, 70, of 113 S. Third St., Hilbert, died unexpectedly Wednesday, February 27, at Calumet Memorial Hospital, Chilton, where she was taken Sunday.

The former Sarah Schultz was born March 21, 1909, in Russia, a daughter of the late Carl and Marie Karg Schultz. She came to the United States as a child.

On February 1, 1927, she and Herman Joas were married in Stockbridge. The couple farmed in the Stockbridge area until 1970 when they moved to Hilbert. Mr. Joas died Feb. 11, 1973. Mrs. Joas was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hilbert and the Hilbert Senior Citizens.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Leonard (Elsie) Juckem of Route 1, Chilton, Mrs. Earl (Lillie) Stache of Potter and Mrs. Rosemary Nelson of Oshkosh; two sons, George of Milwaukee and Herman Jr., New Franken; 19 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and two stepsisters, Mrs. Marie Schultz of Iowa and Mrs. Jenny Scheidt of Nebraska. She was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Funeral services were at St. Peter Church, Hilbert, with the Rev. Gene R. Kangas, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Portland Cemetery in Hilbert.
